Paris 15th: what to do in a day?

A morning in the 15th district

9h. Breakfast in a 15th century boutique hotel

Left Bank, Paris's 15th arrondissement, with its family atmosphere, lively parks, colorful architecture... and the best views of the capital. Start the day with breakfast on theHĂ´tel Wallace patio, featuring an open buffet and local and regional products from the area's best artisans. Alternatively,HĂ´tel Ami, a former letter carrier's inn with an Art Deco facade, offers a Parisian breakfast in a Bauhaus-inspired setting, or on the patio terrace with its terracotta ambiance.

10h. Shopping Rue du Commerce

Just a 3-minute walk from the Hôtel Wallace, and 10 minutes from theHôtel Ami, the Rue du Commerce opens its doors to butchers, cafés, bakeries, tea stores and chocolate shops. A real postcard of Parisian life, where you can discover the charm of the capital's squares. Visit Square Yvette Chauviré, a former local prima ballerina, where you'll find chestnut tree lanes, public benches and a music gazebo, as well as two pétanque courts where you can shoot the jack all year round. Alternatively, Square Saint-Lambert, with its Art Deco buildings, barbe-à-papa stalls, ping-pong tables and Guignol theater, is the place to be for local children.

11h. The Musée de l'Armée at Les Invalides

Walk to theEsplanade Jacques Chaban-Delmas, a green promenade surrounded by some of the finest Parisian buildings in the area, with a breathtaking view of the golden dome of the Hôtel National des Invalides. Once you've reached your destination, head for the Musée de l'Armée (Army Museum ), where you can learn about military history from the Middle Ages to the present day, see the collections of uniforms, armour and helmets, discover the epics of Napoleon Bonaparte, and contemplate his famous bicorne and portraits.

12h30. The best Bo Buns in Paris 15th district

Next door to theHôtel Ami, the Drapeau de la Fidélité is a 15th arrondissement institution. On its façade, the motto "Boire un petit coup c'est agréable" sets the cheerful tone of the place. A former philosophy teacher in Saigon, Mr. Quan runs a pretty little shack where books and unlikely objects come together, and serves Bo Bun and hamburgers at unbeatable prices.

An afternoon in the 15th arrondissement

14h. Shopping session

In addition to the Rue du Commerce, familiar toHotel Wallace andHotel Ami customers alike, Paris's 15th arrondissement hides a few shopping gems. For the boys, Mes Chaussettes Rouges is the place to go. This is where you can buy the designs of Roman tailor Gammarelli, official supplier to the Pope, and knit the tailor-made model of your dreams. Other not-to-be-missed spots include La Boîte de soldats for real toy soldiers, Lili Cabane for vintage gifts and La 25ème heure bookshop for comics, novels and children's books.

15h30. Beaugrenelle

Just 15 minutes fromHôtel Wallace, the hotel with Eiffel Tower views, head for the Beaugrenelle shopping center. Lacoste, Balibaris, Aigle, Figaret, Jacadis Paris... all the finest French fashion houses are present. And the Pathé cinema offers a movie break, with popcorn and ice cream on the menu. Continuing towards the Seine, we take the Beaugrenelle Bridge and head for theIle aux Cygnes to say hello to the Statue of Liberty.

An evening in the 15th arrondissement

19h. Hotel rooftop Wallace

A terrace aperitif in Paris?Hotel Wallace has made it happen. In a cosy, leafy setting, the Wallace invites you to toast the setting sun with an Italian aperitivo. 20h. Bistrot Ă  la parisienne

Rue Gerbert, Paris 15th, a neighborhood like a village square, with its church and its retro bistro with a firecracker-red facade, headquarters of the Pères Siffleurs. On the Formica tables, the patrons parade the good country terrine, fried whiting and grilled octopus. All good stuff!

21h. The Eiffel Tower

We're saving the best for last, with a night-time tour of the Eiffel Tower. The Iron Lady is open until 10:45pm, and from December 17 to January1 until 11:45pm. Twinkling lights at the start of each hour. Let's go!
